Today we are here to honour a man who has long been known as a leader in his field and has influenced the career of an innumerate number of professional stylists’ and salon businesses owners. Over 35 years ago, he opened his first salon on Maddox Street in Mayfair which fast became the sought after salon for celebrities, diplomats and discerning clients requiring quality of service and professionalism.
From the onset, he was very involved in training: he welcomed apprentices and junior stylists who experienced his meticulous style of instruction and mentoring, and today many successful stylists will say they were privileged to have been trained by him.
He was headhunted by major trade magazines to create artistic styles to grace their pages, and he became a sought after platform artist for exhibitions and trade events worldwide. In 1983 he won the Black Hair Olympics Award and conducted Master Classes internationally, and at the World Hair Olympics in 1994 at the Wembley Exhibition Centre. He has officiated as a judge for the Black Trophy Award at the Mondial Coiffure de Beauté Exhibition in Paris, the Black Beauty & Hair Awards and the Afro Hair & Beauty Show in London. He was also guest presenter at a series of classes conducted by ‘Hairdressers from Around the World’ for the Black Hair Institute of America in Chicago. Several leading manufacturers have engaged him to conduct seminars on their behalf around the world.
Today, he has re-established his original salon brand on Crawford Street in Marylebone with a supportive business partner. His vision of empowerment and elevation through training remains with him, and he continues to offer hairdressing training at all levels for Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced candidates. His contribution to the Hairdressing Industry is profound.
