The winner of today’s Trailblazer Award is a dynamic business woman who began her hairdressing experience at the tender age of 10, plaiting and braiding hair for family and friends. During her early career, she identified a gap in the African Caribbean hair industry and sought guidance from the Princes Trust with a view to establishing a business to address this shortfall.
Her first salon Hair Connextions evolved from her obvious technical talent and sound business acumen. She soon went on to develop a brand in Zcue, and establish another two salons under the name. She is widely recognised as a specialist in African Caribbean hair and is a formal advisor to Habia the National Training Organisation on standards of technical competence. She is also a member of the Employers’ Forum at
City College and Walsall College of Arts and Technology. She was pivotal in driving forward the development of the first ever skills standards for African Caribbean hair.
